Boehner Announces American Energy Tour
Highlighting Meaningful Energy Solutions, House GOP Delegation Will Visit Renewable Energy Lab in Colorado, Desolate Alaskan Coastal Plain
Jul 10, 2008
Washington -
Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today announced that he will lead a GOP delegation to Colorado and Alaska next week to highlight meaningful solutions to help reduce gas prices and break America’s dependence on foreign sources of energy. In total, 10 House Republicans will join Boehner on the American Energy Tour.
Boehner and his delegation will tour the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado next Friday, July 18, followed by a visit to Alaska’s remote North Slope on Sunday, July 20. The two stops reflect the “all of the above” energy plan promoted by House Republicans to combat high gas prices – a plan that increases production of American energy, encourages more conservation and efficiency, and promotes the use of alternative fuels. Boehner issued the following statement announcing the American Energy Tour:
“The American people are counting on Congress to increase production of American energy to help bring down gas prices, and this tour will highlight ways in which we can do just that. Our stops in both Colorado and Alaska reflect the ‘all of the above’ approach that House Republicans have been promoting for months – and years – in spite of stiff opposition from congressional Democrats.
“Policies not widely embraced when gasoline was $2 per gallon – such as oil exploration on a tiny patch of Alaska’s vast North Slope – now enjoy the American people’s overwhelming support in the face of $4 per gallon gas. That is why my colleagues and I are heading to the Arctic Coastal Plain: to learn about the abundance of American energy held hostage below the tundra by the Democrats in charge of Congress, and to promote the environmentally-safe exploration of those resources on behalf of families and small businesses alike. At the same time, the future of American energy is in alternative and renewable fuels, which is why we must encourage new and emerging technologies, such as those developed at the renewable energy lab we will tour outside of Denver.
“I look forward to joining my colleagues for this important American energy tour. And more importantly, I look forward bringing back to Washington additional information to help Republicans and an increasing number of Democrats promote the ‘all of the above’ energy strategy the American people expect and deserve.”
NOTE: Boehner will be joined on the American Energy Tour by Reps. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Mary Fallin (R-OK), Dean Heller (R-NV), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Robert Latta (R-OH), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Adrian Smith (R-NE).
Boehner represents Ohio’s 8th District, which includes all of Darke, Miami and Preble counties, most of Butler and Mercer counties, and the northeastern corner of Montgomery County. He was first elected to Congress in 1990.
