Washington
- Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall:

“The fall of the Berlin Wall marked a resounding victory for freedom and human dignity. On that day 20 years ago, a long-standing symbol of division and oppression crumbled under the weight of a revolution inspired by leaders whose faith in God and commitment to freedom changed the world. Years in the making, that movement dismantled the Soviet bloc in a matter of months, erecting in its place a number of young democracies that our nation now counts among its staunchest allies.

“Of course, that historic moment would not have been possible without American leadership, embodied in the courageous words of President Ronald Reagan, who stood at the Brandenburg Gate and demanded that the wall come down and communism give way once and for all. On this occasion, we renew our pledge to stand with free peoples and people who seek to be free.”
